• self-paced and individually tailored
  
• utilising a variety of learning environments, for example their own workplace;
  
• provides access to learning and assessment materials via the World Wide Web, CD Rom or ordinary mail; and
  
• provides learning support without the need to attend classes, for example access to educational facilitators through telephone or computer-to-computer telecommunication (e.g. Skype)
