Core units of this course cover key aspects such as working safely, the use of tools and equipment, working with materials, taking measurements, planning and organisation of work, and workplace communication. Elective units offered cover the specific training needed to work in Bituminous Surfacing such as excavation, aggregate spreading and sealing operations. The Certificate III in Civil Construction (Bituminous Surfacing) requires a total of 25 units of competency. The recommended program structure (see reverse side) can be tailored to suit individuals. Learning and assessment activities are integrated into the workplace tasks and duties of participants and include group discussions, practical activities, coaching and work based assignments. The program delivers key underpinning knowledge, group discussion, practical activities, review of workplace documents and workplace coaching.
